Who is Rick Laxton

Rick Laxton is a Screenwriter and Casting Director, with over 15 years experience of working in the television industry.  He has cast over 800 hours of TV content for major broadcasters, including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Amazon Prime, Disney and Nickelodeon, and is a member of the Casting Director’s Guild.

 

As a writer, Rick cut his teeth storylining for Coronation Street.  His debut screenplay went into development within the BBC Comedy Department, which lead to The Pact, a comedy-drama he co-wrote, being broadcast on BBC2.  Rick is now working on original commissions from BBC Studios and Comedy Central and developing other new projects with independent production companies.

About the workshop

In this workshop, Rick will use practical exercises to guide you through the crucial elements of writing for the screen.  Topics to be covered include -

  • creating effective characters,

  • writing visually,

  • constructing storylines,

  • devising overall series ideas,

  • scene structure,

  • creating dialogue,

  • tackling exposition,

  • devising treatments,

  • and practical career advice on working as a professional writer.

• Workshops must be paid in full at the time of booking via BACS or PayPal

Cancellations
• Cancel Less than 20 days and the full amount is liable. If we can rebook your place we can refund your money.
• Cancellations less than 14 days before arrival the full amount is liable.
• If we need to cancel a full refund will be given to each participant
