About Ruth

Ruth Carney is a professional freelance director.  

 

Ruth has most recently finished directing Casualty for the BBC and Two by Jim Cartwright at The New Vic Theatre.  Previously to this she was directing Emmerdale for ITV and Holby City for the BBC.  In 2016 Ruth was accepted onto the BBC Directors Room Scheme this led to her directing 16 episodes of the BBC daytime drama Doctors.  She has just shot her first short film Funtimes by Samantha Robinson.

Other directing credits include: Les Liaisons Dangerous; My Matisse; Blue Remembered Hills; Measure for Measure; The Sea; Music Lessons; Family; Company; Mina Laury; Emma and Oleanna

Ruth has an MA in Theatre Directing from The Russian Theatre Academy Moscow, and Middlesex University.  Ruth has extensive experience teaching, training and directing actors at schools such as RADA, LAMDA, The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Birmingham School of Acting and Rose Bruford.

About the workshop

This is an exclusive online workshop on zoom  for just 12  participants.    The minimum age is 13  

​​

The workshop requires you to prepare a 90 second monologue from TV/Film of your choosing.    It must be age appropriate  and for your casting type.

​

You will be asked to perform the piece in the zoom workshop for Ruth to give feedback on.

​

Ruth will also teach about the auditioning process for television in real life and over Zoom

​

Booking
• Workshops must be paid in full at the time of booking.

Cancellations
• Cancel Less than 20 days and the full amount is liable. If we can rebook your place we can refund your money.
• Cancellations less than 14 days before arrival the full amount is liable.
• If we need to cancel a full refund will be given to each participant

It is not the responsibility of FIRST TAKE WORKSHOPS if the student is unprepared for the workshop/ and does not have suitable materials with him/her to perform. It should be assumed that no facilities to copy or print speeches will be available at the venue.
